What is cupping?
Cupping is an ancient therapy used by everyone from the ancient Egyptians and Chinese to the ancient Greeks. In this treatment, a glass or silicone cup is used and suction is created to hold the cup onto your skin. The suction pulls your skin, tissues, and muscles upward releasing any restrictions below. Often times acupuncture and cupping are combined. This is due to the mutual enhancement of the two modalities.
What can cupping help with?
Cupping can be thought of as the inverse of massage in that instead of the pressure being applied down into the tissues and muscles, the suction is lifting the tissues and muscles upward. This can enhance circulation in that area relieving pain and tension.
Cupping has been proven to…
· Reduce Pain
· Promote Relaxation
· Boost Skin Health
· Treat Respiratory Issues and Colds
· Improve Digestion
There are two types of cupping…
Fire Cupping and Manual Cupping. We use manual cupping so that we can reduce the risk of fire-related incidences and are better able to regulate the suction in each cup.
Is cupping covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, cupping is not covered by your insurance. This will be an out-of-pocket expense. We will discuss the need and cost for cupping with you before your treatment so that you can decide if it is right for you.
